The Truth About Flossing

Posted on 4/25/2022 by Brian Rounds, DDS
The Truth About FlossingIt was also recently observed that just four out of ten Americans floss every day. Furthermore, almost 20% of Americans never floss at all. Dentists, on the other hand, believe that this is one of the most crucial habits to cultivate. The advantages of flossing daily are apparent. One of the leading causes of gum disease, for example, is a failure to floss. You may simply prevent having this dental health condition if you floss on a regular basis. If you have gum disease and continue to neglect flossing, you are likely to have tooth decay and, eventually, tooth loss.

Brushing and Flossing

If you're like most people, you wash your teeth at least once a day. You should approach flossing in the same way. Flossing at least once a day can help eliminate plaque (a sticky, bacteria-laden film) from hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. Flossing can be done with either standard dental floss or pre-threaded flossers. It is critical to floss because if plaque is not eliminated by brushing, it will harden and develop tartar or calculus. These contaminants can only be removed by a professional dental cleaning.

Taking Care of Your Mouth

Taking care of your oral health is one of the most important things you can do. Although you may not have flossed for years, it is important to develop a habit of doing so. The plaque in your mouth can get into all the nooks and crannies, collect beneath the gum line, develop into tartar, and result in inflammation of your mouth and bleeding gums. When you think your gums are bleeding because you are over-flossing, it is important to realize that this is not the case. As soon as you start flossing regularly, your gums won't bleed anymore.
